A few tips to land your job as a campground bar/snack bar/restaurant manager

If you're looking for a job in food service, you're in the right place! The role of bar, snack bar or restaurant manager at a campground is essential to give guests a great food and drink experience while keeping the business profitable. Whether you're interested in running a bar, a snack bar or a sit-down restaurant, there are plenty of food service manager jobs waiting for you at campgrounds.

Management and Administrative Skills

To become a bar/snack bar/restaurant manager at a campground, you need to master the running of a food and beverage business: inventory control and vendor orders, menu planning, staff management and scheduling, as well as cash reconciliation and day-to-day bookkeeping. A degree in hospitality management, business management, or significant industry experience is highly valued. Stay up to date on food safety standards (ServSafe/HACCP-based programs) and the regulations covering food service and alcohol sales (liquor license).

Service Quality and Guest Satisfaction

Guest satisfaction is a core part of a food service manager's role. Focus on the quality of the food and drinks on offer, the speed of service, and the overall atmosphere of the venue, whether that's a laid-back bar, a quick-service snack bar, or a themed restaurant. Listen to guest feedback and adjust the offering (menu, entertainment, hours) based on traffic and guest expectations throughout the season.

Organization and Managing Peak Periods

As a manager, you'll need to organize your team to handle busy periods (lunch and dinner rushes, themed nights, events). Get into the habit of anticipating inventory and staffing needs based on seasonality and how busy the campground is. Make sure the venue meets safety, sanitation and cleanliness standards at all times, including during health inspections.

Communication and Teamwork

Communication is key to being an effective manager at a campground. Check in regularly with campground management to coordinate entertainment, themed nights, and logistics. Lead and motivate your team day to day, train seasonal staff on the venue's procedures, and maintain a good working atmosphere to ensure consistently high-quality service for guests.
