A few tips to land your job in campground grounds maintenance

If you're looking for a job in groundskeeping, you're in the right place! The role of groundskeeper at a campground is essential to give guests a pleasant, clean, and green environment throughout their stay. Whether you're interested in mowing, trimming, watering, or landscaping, there are plenty of groundskeeping jobs waiting for you at campgrounds.

Technical Skills and Use of Equipment

To become a groundskeeper at a campground, it's essential to know how to use and maintain landscaping equipment (mowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, robotic mowers, irrigation systems). Training or experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a related certification is an advantage. Keep building your knowledge of plants, pruning techniques, and best maintenance practices to keep the grounds healthy and attractive throughout the season.

Day-to-Day Maintenance and Landscaping

Grounds maintenance is a core part of how a campground runs smoothly. Mow lawns, trim hedges and shrubs, weed flower beds, and make sure plants are watered regularly, particularly during the summer season. Plan ahead for landscaping work (planting, mulching, floral displays) to enhance campsites, the pool area, and common spaces, giving guests a well-kept, welcoming environment.

Organization and Attention to Detail

As a groundskeeper, you need to be ready to organize your work based on priorities and the weather. Practice planning your tasks (mowing, trimming, watering) efficiently to cover the whole property while working around areas used by guests. Pay close attention to detail so you can quickly spot areas that need attention and help maintain a spotless impression of the property.

Communication and Teamwork

Communication is key to being an effective groundskeeper at a campground. Check in regularly with the maintenance team and management to flag equipment needs, areas needing extra attention, or any issues with the grounds (faulty automatic irrigation, a hazardous tree, etc.). Coordinate your work with other departments to carry out tasks at the best times and minimize disruption for guests.
