Our job offers for pool lifeguards in a campground

A few tips on how to get a job at a campground.

The role of a certified lifeguard at a campground is hugely important for keeping guests safe during water-based activities. As a campground lifeguard, you'll be responsible for preventing accidents, keeping a close watch over swimming areas, and responding quickly in an emergency. Here are our tips for becoming a confident, skilled campground lifeguard.

Getting Certified and Ongoing Training

To become a lifeguard at a campground, you'll need a recognized lifeguard certification, such as the American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification (or, for lakes and open water, a Waterfront/Open Water Lifeguarding certification). These certifications give you the skills you need in water rescue, surveillance, and first aid/CPR/AED. Make sure you enroll with an approved training provider and complete the required coursework and in-water skills sessions to earn your certification. You'll also need to keep your certification current with periodic renewal training (typically every two years) to stay up to date on best practices in water safety.

Preventing Water-Related Risks

Preventing water-related risks is a crucial part of a lifeguard's role. Make sure guests are aware of safety rules and which areas are supervised. Keep a close eye on swimmers and anticipate risky situations, such as strong currents or careless behavior. Be available to answer guests' questions and offer advice on how to enjoy the water safely.

Responding to Emergencies

As a certified lifeguard, you need to be ready to respond quickly in an emergency. Practice rescue and first aid procedures regularly so you're prepared to step in whenever needed. Make sure rescue equipment, such as ring buoys and reaching poles, is in good working order and easily accessible. Stay calm and confident during emergency situations to reassure guests and act effectively.

Communication and Awareness

Communication is essential to being an effective lifeguard at a campground. Stay in regular contact with the campground team to share information on weather conditions, changes to swimming areas, or anything else relevant to guest safety. Run water safety awareness sessions for guests to inform them of potential risks and how to stay safe.
