A few tips on how to get a job at a campground.

A few tips to land your job as a campground activities staff member (DJ)

If you're looking for a job in recreation and entertainment, you're in the right place! Finding a job as a campground activities/entertainment staff member can seem tricky, but there are plenty of opportunities out there for passionate, skilled people. Whether you're interested in kids' programs, sports activities, evening entertainment, or DJing, there are plenty of activities staff jobs waiting for you at campgrounds.

Relevant Certifications and Equipment Skills

To become an activities staff member at a campground, it's helpful to hold a relevant certification, particularly if you'll be working with kids — for example a recreation leadership certification, camp counselor training, or a CPR/First Aid certification. This will give you the skills you need in programming, safety, and group supervision. If you'll also be DJing in the evenings, get familiar with sound and lighting equipment (mixing boards, speakers, lighting rigs) as well as DJ software, and build up a large, varied music library to suit all audiences. Keep building your skills with additional training (sports, performance, first aid, audio tech) to stay versatile.

Kids' Programs, Sports, Shows and Evening Events

Entertainment at a campground covers a lot of ground: kids' clubs and programs, sports and games for all ages, themed shows, and evening entertainment (theme nights, karaoke, foam parties). Plan varied activities suited to each age group, think ahead about what equipment you'll need, and adjust your music to fit the crowd and the vibe you're going for. Be available to answer guests' questions and create a warm, friendly atmosphere throughout their stay.

Adaptability and Organization

As an activities staff member, you need to be ready to juggle several activities at once and adapt quickly to the unexpected (weather, attendance, equipment, evening vibe). Practice thinking on your feet, keeping your activities lively, and mixing smoothly between tracks to keep the crowd's energy up. Make sure your equipment is in good working order, and plan your activity schedule carefully to keep guests coming back throughout the season.

Communication and Teamwork

Communication is key to being an effective activities staff member at a campground. Check in regularly with the activities team to coordinate programming and the evening schedule, share feedback from guests, and adjust the schedule as needed. Highlight your communication skills, creativity, organizational ability, and teamwork — these qualities are essential for success in this field.
